Tooth Extractions

We Treat The Problem And Provide The Best Options!

Tooth Extractions

From wisdom teeth to a crowded smile, sometimes tooth extraction is the best option

At New Image Dental we keep patients informed about their dental health and treat small dental issues before they develop into larger or more expensive problems. However, in certain cases where a tooth has suffered from significant damage, decay or a dental injury, tooth extraction may be advised. Other cases where tooth extraction may be necessary includes instances of a crowded mouth or when a dental trauma or risk of infection occurs. Whether your wisdom teeth are coming in or a damaged or decay tooth is keeping you up at night, it may be time to schedule a consultation to discuss tooth extraction.

What to Expect at Your Appointment

Our team makes extractions simple and painless.

Dr. Leslie and Dr. Scott are specially trained to perform tooth extractions and can guide you through the process. Treatment begins with the application of a local anesthetic to eliminate any pain. Depending on your level of comfort or the type of treatment needed, you may be provided sedative medicine before the procedure to aid in relaxation. If your tooth is impacted (or rests below the gum line) your dentist will carefully remove a thin film of tissue to expose the tooth for extraction. The tooth is then grasped using forceps and rocked gently back and forth until safely removed. Once the tooth is removed a gauze pad is applied to the area and dissolvable stitches may be applied to help encourage healing. Finally, antibiotics and pain medications are typically prescribed to help patients recover quickly over the next few days.

After Tooth Extraction

We make sure you leave the office with the post-operative care plan you need to heal quickly.

After tooth extraction it is recommended to rest and to and avoid strenuous exercise while you heal. It is important to introduce soft foods slowly and avoid drinking with a straw. At night, sleeping with a propped pillow helps to direct blood flow from the affected area and to reduce swelling. Patients may also use ice packs applied to the outside of the cheek. When cleaning the mouth it is best to floss carefully and rinse gently with warm water. If you have any questions about your treatment options or what to expect after tooth extraction, our staff is glad to assist you with your questions or schedule a consultation.
