New-Image-Dental-New-Office

If you’ve been putting off a crown placement or replacement due to a lack of time, we understand. Traditional crowns often require multiple appointments, and they’re very time-consuming. You have other things to do like take care of the kids, back-to-school shopping, and work—just to name a few!

What if we told you that you could have a crown made, placed, and bonded in just one appointment? It’s true! At New Image Dental, Dr. Leslie Strommer and Dr. Scott Strommer are certified in CEREC, and they specialize in single-appointment CEREC crowns. Learn more about this unique process now.

What Is CEREC Same-Day Dentistry?

CEREC stands for CEramic REConstruction. Using an advanced, in-office milling machine, CEREC technology allow ceramic crowns to be custom-crafted in as little as five minutes.

Traditional, outsourced crowns can take days, or even weeks, to be made and sent back to a dentist’s office. This requires multiple appointments and long waiting periods.

However, CEREC has totally changed the entire process. By creating dental implants, crowns, veneers, and more in dental offices, CEREC dentistry dramatically improves the speed and quality of your dental care.

How Do CEREC Crowns Work?

CEREC same-day crowns can be fitted in a single appointment, usually within just two hours. Here’s a breakdown of the process.

Initial examination and preparation – Dr. Strommer will examine your tooth and determine whether or not a crown is the proper treatment for your needs. If a full crown is required, the tooth will be cleaned and anesthetized to prepare for the operation. Decayed or weakened tooth tissue will be removed.

CEREC optical impression – Next, your tooth will be coated with a specialized, non-toxic, tasteless powder. An advanced camera is used to take an “optical impression” of the tooth. This image is used to create your CEREC crown and ensure that it is perfectly shaped for your mouth.

CEREC crowns are manufactured – The CEREC 3D software converts the optical impression into a 3D model of your tooth. Dr. Leslie or Scott Strommer will then convert this 3D model into a finalized tooth restoration. Within a few minutes, the design is finished, and the CEREC machine in our office will create a crown that perfectly matches your original tooth—all in less than five minutes!

CEREC crowns are placed and bonded permanently – The crown is temporarily placed to ensure a proper fit. If the crown is suitable, it will then be quickly bonded into place with an advanced dental adhesive. And that’s it! You’re done!

The entire process takes one or two hours, depending on the patient. The procedure does not require a follow-up appointment, though we do recommend following up after six to eight weeks to ensure your crown is comfortable. Patients should also contact us if they experience any issues with crown placement.
